IN FLIGHT- Block 7- Duck

Hello and welcome back to the In Flight Quilt Along.  I hope you enjoyed the Easter break, but are ready to get back to some serious sewing.

This week's block is the duck. This is one of the blocks which gives you the choice of doing a 12 or a 24 inch block. I chose to sew a 24 inch block. I really enjoyed sewing it. Sewing bigger blocks is a bit more challenging than sewing small blocks, but I really believe that it is more rewarding and worth the extra hassle.

I decided to use some of the darker shades from my Colourshott bundle- Dark green, dark grey and black. I guess you could say that with it's green head my duck is a mallard. I was a bit worried about these colours, but I think they worked out well in the end.

You can find the pattern in my Payhip Store and My Etsy Store.

I've been playing around trying to come up with a suitable layout for my blocks. I was not really happy with the layout that I had for 6 x 12 inch blocks and 6 x 24 inch blocks. It felt too ordered. I wanted something that while balanced retained an organic feel. In the end, I decided to add the thirteenth block to my layout and replace two of the 24 inch blocks with 18 inch blocks. I am really happy with the way that it works and am looking forward to creating my quilt top now.

Before I forget, the winner of the Oakshott cotton Charm Pack and Tartankiwi patterns is:
