It was a busy sewing weekend in the Tartankiwi household. I can't remember the last time that I completed so many sewing projects in a single weekend- it feels great! I don't think that I'll bomb you with all my makes in one long post, I'll spread them over a few posts to do each item justice.
I am really relieved that I finished off an example of the stack and slash quilt that I will be teaching at The Make Cafe.
I love this technique. Simple, forgiving and fun! After the precision that is required for paper piecing, it was great to have a simple project with very few rules.
I'll be honest, I had a bit of a nightmare with the quilting. I was using a different batting and my machine just refused to sew it neatly. The stitches are ugly and uneven, the straight lines are a bit wonky but it got to the point where I just had to keep going and get it finished. I'm just hoping that people in the shop don't look at the stitching too closely!
That said, its a pretty cute quilt don't you think!? I can't wait to teach the class and see what everyone comes up with.
Love this! Make Cafe, come to Wellington, please!
ReplyDeleteIt is a cute quilt. I find washing a quilt often hides any dodgy quilting... Also, I was thinking about your sewing machine situation again after our IG conversation and I wondered whether it would be worth looking into a good quality but older sewing machine. I have a 25 year old Bernina and it quilts straight lines no problems. You could probably find something similar on TradeMe for a couple of hundred dollars. I think those older all metal machines are just in a completely different league to the new machines you can buy now for the same money.
ReplyDeleteThat is a darn cute quilt - wish I could go :)
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome - I wish I could go too!!! Also - do you still need pattern testers for the little robin bird?
ReplyDeleteit's a great quilt! well done you! as for wonky lines and uneven stitches... I'm sure it's mostly only you who'll notice :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it will be a fun class, I'm sure the quilting will be fiine and only stick out to you!
