When I started work in the Make Cafe, I made a pact with myself. I would only buy fabric if I had a specific project in mind for it. It has been a rule that I have stuck to so far. No fabric at all has been bought by me.... until this week.
You see, there has been a specific fabric that has been calling to me, shouting out my sons name.
Every time that I saw this cute linen/ cotton blend, I would think about the cute pair of shorts that I could make for scallywag.
And then I remembered that I made a new Christmas dress for Rascal, so why shouldn't Scallywag get some new Mum made Christmas shorts too?
I kept it simple (the fabric is busy enough) and drafted the pattern using a pair of shorts that fit well. Scallywag loves how they turned out. So much so that I suspect that its going to be a problem getting him out of them!
The good thing is that they fit well over his cloth nappies. Being a fairly tall two year old, he is getting towards the height that clothing manufacturers assume that children will have outgrown nappies. For the time being I think that Mum made shorts will be the way to go (and as long as I can use fabric like this, Scallywag will not be complaining!)
Good work! Love the fabric and we had the same problem with cloth nappies and pants- they are either too big or too small. He will love them!!
ReplyDeleteLove them! I've made all Riley's shorts this summer and I think they look so much nicer than shorts you buy ( and they fit better too).
ReplyDeletePerfect fabric for a pair of shorts, Juliet!!! Have a great Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLove how you've used the double needle here too! Makes them look nice and neat and profesh :)
