Take the friendship bracelet project that I am working on for example... I designed the top with no real consideration for what it would become. I was convinced that inspiration would strike and I would suddenly know what it would become...
Well... that was last weekend. Since then I have auditioned a few ideas, but nothing seemed to fit as perfectly as I had assumed that it would! It has progressed a tiny bit, but not as much as I'd like! I'd better get a move on if I want to get it finished on time.
One thing that is taking shape nicely is the kiwi pattern. When my friend Cat saw my first attempt she loved it and started hinting. I offered to make a special commission kiwi for her. This kiwi is a 12 inch (the original was 10 inch). I don't tend to use floral prints for this kind of block, but I knew that Cat would approve of the fabric so I went with it. What do you think?

Love his spotty stockings! |
The kiwi pattern itself is coming along nicely. Thank you so much to everyone who left kind comments about it. I am working on getting it ready to distribute here on my blog. I was very flattered by all the advice saying I should sell the pattern but this one will be a freebie. Having learnt about all that I know about sewing from generous bloggers who share their skills and patterns, it doesn't feel right to make people pay for my very first pattern.
Squeal !! !!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it
I can definately see the friendship bracelet thing in that block.. you're on the right track ")
ReplyDeleteAs for the kiwi block... too Cute!!! I would have reacted the same way as Cat... maybe I should give that a go at the weekend and make a cushion?

ReplyDeleteI'm not usually a floral fabric person, but I love the pink roses in the kiwi. It somehow seems so unexpected but sweet! I think if I saw that fabric in a heart or something it would be too much but in your kiwi it's fabulous. Great Pattern!

ReplyDeleteI love this! I am trying to find block patterns for a quilt from fabric I got in NZ when I visited and this looks perfect! Is there any way you could include the measurements that you used for the different sections?
ReplyDeleteAt the moment I'm working on getting the pattern ready to distribute on my blog. I hope to have both a 10 inch and a 12 inch version available. Email me at tartankiwi.blog(at)gmail.com if you want more details in the short term.
DeleteFantastic kiwi block. You should do a whole series - what could be next? A nice fat kakapo maybe.
