A few weeks ago when I was surfing the net, I stumbled across the Beginner's Quilt Along. This is a collection of fairly simple blocks, but the instructions include lots of handy little tricks of the trade. I thought I'd try out a couple of these blocks, but to be honest I find many of the blocks more suitable to be repeated over a whole quilt rather than used as one-offs in a sampler quilt.
I settled on the block which they call Go on a Picnic. I'm glad that I followed their suggestion and used a fussy cut fabric in the centre of the block. It gives the block a bit more interest than it might otherwise have. As I have said before, I like having a few simpler blocks in among the more complicated ones and this block is no exception, I think it will fit in perfectly.
Again, even though this is a light grey block, I am loving the way that the colours work together.
Here it is in the context of the quilt.
I'm joining in the fun at WIP Wednesday.
Don't forget to come back tomorrow to see the fun tutorial that I have prepared to use my two cute helicopter blocks as part of the Practically Paper Piecing Blog Hop.
Super cute, sometimes simple is just the right thing and I agree that the colors are perfect in this block!
