When I found this fun octopus fabric on the clearance table at Spotlight a while back, I just knew it had to be mine.
There was only 90cm left on the bolt, so I went ahead and purchased it all.
In the shop, I was thinking of of using it to make something for Scallywag, but once I got it home I realised "WHAT WAS I THINKING?" The print was FAR too busy for boys clothes, so I changed plans and decided to make some trousers for Rascal.
I used the flat front trouser tutorial from Made (which I upsized, as Rascal is growing out of the last pair of these trousers that I made for her). I also added pockets...
and a microfleece lining using this tutorial (the fabric was a bit too flimsy for Winter weight trousers, so I thought that this would be a nice way to make them a bit warmer).
So snuggly and warm to wear and even better, there is a nice big hem which I can take down as she grows! |
When I was about halfway through sewing, I began to wish that I hadn't been so ambitious as it was a bit tricky working out what to do when and how to do it all, but in the end I was really pleased with the results.
I'll be honest and admit that these are not quite finished. I need to wait till Rascal gets home from preschool to check that I have got the waist elastic correct. It will be a quick job to finish them off after that though.
I hope Rascal likes her new trousers.
I reckon that paired with a nice plain red top these could look stunning. What do you think?
All in all, a successful first day in the Challenge. Wish me luck for the rest of the week!
