More Buttercup bags, but this time a bit bigger.
This is what happens when you enlarge the pattern and print it on A3 paper instead of A4.

To cope with the extra weight that a bigger bag will carry, I added interfacing to the lining. I left the outer fabric interface free, so that it drapes nicely. Next time I think I will also interface the band around the top of the bag exterior, just to give a bit more strength.
I also increased the size of the inner pocket and added a pen pocket.
It feels as if the bag is still missing something though. It needs a little bit of decoration of some sort. I haven't decided what. I might do the decoration suggested in the original pattern, or maybe some covered buttons or something similar. Any ideas?

I love making these bags!
Hmmm maybe I'll try adding a recessed zip to one of these bags next. What do you think?

Man, I've had that pattern sitting around since it first came out and I've never used it! I don't know why because they really are pretty. You could probably go the really frou-frou route as well as the restrained button and tab way, like with fabric flowers or ruffles?
ReplyDeleteLoving your bags and also love the idea of fabric flowers -
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteOh those bags are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and turned out fab! Ooowww you can get sooo much more in it now :)
ReplyDeleteI love Buttercup Bags too! Yours are really pretty you picked out perfect fabric for them. I never thought to enlarge my pattern but may have to do that now. The ones I made never seem big enough for all my junk I carry around. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you've sized it up. It's such a cute bag, but I need something a little bigger. Might have to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteThese buttercup bags are just lovely. I particularly love the red one..but I'm always partial to anything red :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the bags! Cx
ReplyDeleteCompletely gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteI'm a lover of paper rosettes but you could try a fabric rosette with a beautiful old button as the centre? They do look lovely as is though!
ReplyDeleteJem xXx
very nice! Love the colour too. Hmmm.... maybe a flower rosette with a diamante button or something?
ReplyDeleteGreat looking bags!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job! :) Decoration... buttons maybe? A brooch pinned on? You'll figgure something out - you are a clever cookie.
ReplyDeleteI have had that pattern on my "To do" list for too long now. Sigh. One day. :)
Lovely bags - I really like the red one; gorgeous fabric! I've got this pattern somewhere and never made it - can't think why!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the blue and white bag. Zippered pockets are so practical inside a bag.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, just lovely! Maybe a fabric yo-yo would look nice in the same fabric - they're easy-peasie to make :D
