I really enjoyed doing this challenge and I received great reactions from it. I sent the letters to my three best friends in the whole wide world.
Each one represents a different stage in my life (school; new immigrant to NZ; new mum) but the special thing is that even though these stages have past, the friendships have remained and are just as strong, if not stronger than they were back then. Each of these friends have special qualities that I value and cherish. I hope to remain friends with them for a long time even though I live in a different country to one and on a different island in NZ to the other two.
In the letters, I ensured that my three best girlfriends knew how important they are to me. The contents were pretty personal and represent the reflection that I have done over the last couple of months.
As well as writing letters, I included a few wee presents. These were a mixture of bought bits and pieces and homemade goodies. None of them were large presents, but a fair bit of thought went into their selection. The two friends who have already received their letters are both thrilled with the Rudolf Christmas tree decorations (and one friend is desperately trying to design a decoration to send back, even though this is totally unnecessary!)
I am really glad that I took the time to cherish my important friendships. In my head I have shown that I don't take the friendships for granted, which in an ever moving world full of new people and new homes is important to do. I can highly recommend taking your friends by surprise and showing how much their friendship is worth to you... Go on... do it! (you know you want to!)
