A while back I announced a fun wee competition here at Tartankiwi.
I asked you to come up with pattern ideas and offered to make up the winning pattern for the person who suggested it.
There were some really great suggestions given and I had a really hard time choosing, but finally I chose three themes:
Kirstine asked for species specific (non cutesy) Dinosaurs. So far I have come up with three- Triceratops, Brontosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex. These are lots of fun to design and I can think of at least one three year old little boy who will love them!
2. New Zealand Native Flowers
There were several people who suggested New Zealand Native Flowers so with the help of random dot org I chose Gill as the person who will win if you guys choose this theme. So far I have designed a Kowhai flower and a Koru or Fern Frond (and a failed Manuka flower)- flowers are harder than you might think!
The Koru is a motif which is found regularly in Maori art its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its
inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru therefore
symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same.
3. Christchurch Cathedral
Finally I was drawn to Susan's request for Cathedrals or famous landmarks. As an ex-archaeologist living in Christchurch, I couldn't resist a block celebrating Christchurch's Earthquake ravaged Cathedral in its former glory. Unfortunately the future of this landmark is still uncertain and it looks set to be stuck in legal battles for years to come, so in the meantime lets celebrate the beautiful landmark that was.
So what are you waiting for- place your votes and I'll announce the winner this time next week- I can't wait to see what you all choose!
