Hexie Progress

It turns out that I was right when I said that less sewing would be done once I started my new job. I don't think I sewed a single thing for about ten days and I was beginning to think that my sewjo had completely deserted me!

By Saturday night, however, I began to miss it. I wanted to sew something, but didn't know where to start.

I knew I wasn't in the mood for foundation paper piecing. Although I want to make some more childrens clothes, I really can't motivate myself for it at the moment. I have (temporarily) lost interest in the sampler quilt and I still don't have backing fabric for the Sunshine quilt... Hmmmm... Where to start???

And then I remembered that I wrote myself a list! Brilliant! I had a quick squizz at the 100 Day Hustle list and decided to get moving on my EPP hexies again- a nice bit of relaxing hand sewing infront of the telly sounded like just the thing!

I auditioned fabrics for the background of my circular cushion. Bottle green looked really good, but it doesn't go with anything in our house and I didn't have enough fabric; cream was wishy-washy; light grey was OK, dark grey looked great!

I cut out a slightly uneven circle for the backing fabric and started sewing. It felt wrong to machine quilt my hand sewn hexies, so I got out some embroidery floss and started sewing. I like that the quilting adds a certain puffiness to the hexies.

To be honest, I do not have any round cushions for the inner of this cushion and I am not going to buy one. I have lots of really really tiny (useless) fabric scraps that I am planning to cut even smaller and use as stuffing. If necessary I will supplement this with some polyester stuffing. This means that I won't be able to take the cushion cover off to clean it, but as this cushion is for our house and I don't care!

I hope to have a finished cushion to show you all by Friday... fingers crossed!

I'm linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced. Hop over and see other peoples works in progress.
