A Cushion and a Pattern

I feel as if there are quite a few half finished projects lying around here at the moment, so it feels really good to have finished something.

I am extra specially proud of this finish as it is 100% my own work:
  •  My paper pieced kiwi pattern;
  • my free motion quilting (I was desperate to move onto something new, but decided that it was better to learn to stipple well before jumping onto something more advanced) and
  • my improvised cushion pattern.
 I love how it all came together.

It makes a great pair together with the birdie cushion that I made a few months ago (the colours are slightly different, but I don't care!) They will proudly adorn our sofa and wait with baited breathe to see if I get round to making any more cushions for the set!
They don't look it in this photo, but I promise that the stripes are straight! I was a bit adventurous and did some FMQ on the back panels too- I like it!
Kristy from Quiet Play was kind enough to take some time out from designing fun quilt blocks to test my kiwi block for me. Didn't she do a great job!
What's that you say? A Kiwi in Australia?!

... And you know what that means? The pattern has been tested so its ready to be distributed here on my blog.  Click on the picture below and you will be taken to the pattern.

I recommend that you download the pattern first and then print it ensuring that your printer settings are for "original size".

If you have any problems, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Either comment here or send me an email - tartankiwi.blog(at)gmail.com

Edited to add: I have altered the pattern now, making it easier to piece accurately. The new pattern can be found here
This pattern is for a 10 inch block, if you are interested in a 12 inch block let me know and I'll publish that too.

  18. I have started this project and I am having so much fun. This design was what made me want to try paper piecing which I had never done before. I am about 1/2 way through but hope to finish by Friday:
