My Creative Space - A Crayon Roll

I have been receiving such good reactions from giving handmade gifts recently, that I decided to make a few children's gifts which I can store away, ready to give as last minute gifts.

I've seen a lot of crayon rolls hanging about in the blogosphere over the last wee while and thought it was time to try making one, especially as Rascal loves the pencil roll that she got from Amy as part of the tea towel swap so much! (I may also have been spurred on by the fact that I bought some half price crayons last week...)

As I was feeling a bit lazy, I used this tutorial to give me dimensions. Unfortunately, it wasn't till I had finished that I realised that I had bought large size crayons. Although the crayons fit in their slots, they are a bit tight for little fingers and I think I will buy some normal sized crayons for this roll and make another one roll with slightly wider slots for these crayons.

The fabric that I used was vintage material from an old childs duvet cover.
(woo hoo for me upcycling!)

Why do I always think practical thoughts when I'm already halfway through projects??? I think next time I'll use a darker colour fabric on the inside as I  reckon that this will get fairly badly marked as crayons are put in and taken out... Ah well! We live and learn...

  2. Awesome! Think of it as the prototype - the rest will all be perfected! (and I'm just there will be a "rest" of them, since they will be so popular at the kids parties! ;) )

  3. The fabric is so awesome, pity about the big crayons, I've noticed in Peter's pencil case that he's broken the little ones in half but the big ones are all complete:)

  5. I wish I was organised enough to make some gifts ahead of time - I always seem to get caught out with mad crafting the night before kid's birthdays! Very cool upcycle!
