A Beret for Me

Remember me lamenting the fact that everyone else in my family has a beanie that I knitted? Well I decided to remedy the situation, but instead of a beanie, I thought I'd try a beret. I used this pattern.
To be honest, the whole thing has been a bit of a mission. I lost count of how many times I started it, unravelled it, started it, unravelled it and started it again... The pattern was easy to follow, the problems were caused by a range of things (wrong type of needles; a combination of wrong wool and choosing the wrong size of hat; losing stitches off the ends of needles, small children etc...). On the bright side, all the false starts gave me the chance to work on my knitting technique. It was knitted using double point needles and a circular needle and I had never used double point needles before. By the time that I finally finished this project, my stitches were pretty regular and neat. The only thing is that after all that effort, I'm not sure it suits me... What do you think?
